The Situation in Buffalo Public Schools

On April 26, 2025, Detective Richard Hy appeared on the Unsubscribe Podcast, alleging that Buffalo Public Schools has engaged in a pattern of covering up serious incidents, including child abuse, sexual assault, and attempted ab sexual assaults between students. Hy claimed that BPS officials and attorneys have obstructed evidence, ignored subpoenas, and deleted surveillance footage of incidents, such as an attempted abduction at Charles R. Drew Science Magnet School in February 2025.

Specific cases include an unreported attempted abduction of two students, where only one family was informed, and a high school student’s abuse reports ignored by a counselor until visible injuries prompted action. These allegations, viewed over 1 million times, have prompted the Buffalo Board of Education to launch an independent investigation, with results to be shared publicly. Community members have expressed outrage and concern, with many parents and teachers contacting board members to voice their issues.

The Buffalo Teachers Federation and parent advocates have also raised concerns about systemic issues, including a lack of transparency and failure to comply with mandatory reporting laws. This platform seeks to collect and catalog similar experiences to ensure accountability and protect students.
