Detective Exposes Alleged Failures in Buffalo Schools’ Handling of Abuse Cases
2025-04-26
Buffalo Police Detective Richard Hy, known as Angry Cops, has leveled grave accusations against Buffalo Public Schools, asserting that the district has failed to report child abuse and hindered police investigations. Speaking on the “Unsubscribed Podcast,” Hy detailed two incidents that he believes reveal deep-seated issues within the school system.
In February, at Dr. Charles R. Drew Science Magnet School, 30-year-old Shane Cronin allegedly attempted to abduct two students—a girl and a boy. Hy claims the school notified only the girl’s family and deleted surveillance footage, which was later recovered via a staff member’s cell phone video. Cronin was arrested and charged with burglary and assault.
In another case, a high school student reported abuse by her father to a school counselor, a mandated reporter. Despite presenting video evidence twice, no action was taken until the student appeared visibly injured on her third visit, leading to the father’s arrest for assault and endangering a child.
Buffalo Public Schools, serving 30,000 students across 60 schools, has denied these allegations, stressing its commitment to safety and collaboration with the Buffalo Police Department. The district has announced an independent external investigation, led by the Buffalo Board of Education, to address these claims transparently. The Erie County District Attorney’s Office and Buffalo Police Department have pledged thorough investigations but are limited in commenting due to ongoing cases.
These allegations have heightened community concerns, prompting calls for improved safety measures and accountability. As the investigation unfolds, parents and advocates await answers to ensure student protection.
